A very large section of the Hindu society depends on astrology and adheres to the ideal time (muhurats) to perform the pujas and invest. The auspicious day and the subsequent muhurats are therefore integral to the Diwali rituals.
Pushya Nakshatra:
‘Pushya Nakshatra’ is a good time to purchase account books, gold and silver coins . This is considered to be the best Nakshatra of all. The natives born in this Nakshatra are intelligent, spiritual and selfless. They attract wealth (often up to the point of opulence) as their karmic reward. Pushya borne people are self sufficient, deep thinkers and philosophers. Pushya natives truly care about others, and try to uplift the conditions of people around themselves. They work for the underprivileged, and spread their knowledge through teaching.
Vagh Barash:
Diwali celebrations in Gujarat begin with Vagh Barash. It can be considered as the first day of Diwali celebrations of Gujarati people. Cows and other domestic animals are worshiped on the day. It is also the last day of transactions in the financial year for businesses and those who maintain account books. In Diwali Muhurat 2010, the date of Vagh Barash is November 3.
Dhanteras or Dhanvantri Pujan:
Lord Dhanvantari is considered as the God of Ayurveda. All Ayurvedic physicians pray to God Dhanvantari and ask him to give strength to fight with diseases and pray him to give power to cure the diseases as well as to give happy - healthy long life to masses.
Kali Chaudash or Narka Chaturdashi:
Celebrated on the 14th day of the dark half of Ashwin, Kali Chaudas is the day allotted to the worship of Maha-Kali or Shakti and is believed that on this day Kali killed the wickedest. Also referred to as Narak-Chaturdashi, Kali Chaudas is day to abolish laziness and evil which create hell in our life and shine light on life. The strength to protect others is referred as Kali, and if it’s used for God's work is called Mahakali. Celebrated as the second of the auspicious Deepavali days, Narkachaturdashi originates from days of Lord Krishna. God Yama is also worshiped on this day to get over the fear of demon Narakasura. Lamps with four wicks are lighted at various places.

Gujarati New Year:
New Year day in Gujarat is celebrated on the day after Diwali. It is referred as Hindu Vikram Samvatsar. Gujarati New Year 2010 date as per Gujarat Panchang is November 7. On this day house, shop and each building are decorated with lights and flowers. Gujarati people dress nicely and go to temple to pray and at last they distribute Sweets as prasad. They give warm wishes to each other and welcome New Year.
Labh Pancham:
The final festival during the Diwali period is Labh Pancham on Kartik. In Diwali Muhurat 2010, the date of Labh Pancham is November 10. Shops and businesses are reopened after Diwali holidays on Labh Pancham which is also the last festival during Deepavali period.
