Diwali is an auspicious festival of lights celebrated with great joy in India. There are various pujas that are conducted during this period. In Hindu mythology, a lot of importance is given to auspicious timings, which are called as Diwali shubh muhurats. It is believed if certain things are done during unfavorable time of the day then the result will not be fruitful or as expected.

 

These are few of the important dates for this year’s Diwali festival. Below are the details of the Diwali Muhurat 2012.

Pushya Nakshatra
This year Pushya Nakshatra is on 6th November 2012. This day is considered auspicious and lucky to purchase gold. Hence during this Muhurat people buy maximum gold.

Vagh Barash
Vagh Barash is on 10th November 2012. On this day, people clear their debts and close their ledger accounts and do not make any new transactions. The calf and the cow are also worshipped.

Dhanteras or Dhanvantri Puja
Dhanteras or Dhanvantri Puja is on 11th November. This day is a pious day and people decorate their house and temple with flowers to welcome Goddess Laxmi. They worship and pray to Goddess Laxmi on this day.

Kaali Chaudash
Kaali Chaudash or Narka chathurdashi is on 12th November this year. It is called Narka chaturdashi, as on this day Shri Krishna defeated Narkaasur. This is the day before Diwali as the next day you will find all houses and the entire city decorated with Lights and diyas.

Diwali and Laxmi Pujan
The most awaited day, Diwali, is on 13th November this year. It is the day when Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya.  It signifies good over evil. It’s the last day in the Hindu calendar. People light diyas, candles and have extra lights in their house. They believe that Goddess Laxmi will come to their homes to bless with prosperity and happiness so no room is left in darkenss.
